I once had a rose plant which wouldn't bear any flowers for the entire year (I think it's the warm weather we have) but a few days before my birthday, I saw a bud and it bloomed on my birthday...
Oh, I think, crysanthemum are tough. They can do with a bit of cold. And most flowers are still beautiful when not fresh any more ;-)
I don't dig up my tulips at the end of the summer... this week has them poking their heads out. Now I am debating digging them up or letting them go
It makes me think of The Little Prince and his Rose.
I have the kind of anticipation we get around spring here. I can't wait to see this flower.

i expect your flowers to show us traits and emotions unlike any other. reminding me of the lovely film Like Water for Chocolate.
Late blooming flowers? Indeed, count me in .... though i'm still in the bud forming stages. but the stalk is strong. The leaves seek the sun ... and enough tears have been shed to nourish its roots. I see a new resolve to survive everyday.
Will let you know when this flower blooms, finally.

I don't remember it being reported that hot in the past on the coast. Is this unusual?
We had a partially blooming forsythia before frost. I think it was because I reduced it down with the hedge trimmer.

I had a rosebud open and bloom nicely in my yard yesterday, --the latest I've ever seen a rose bloom (and look fab) in NY was Dec 11th a few years ago--

Dear Friend, The poetry of the flower is in all seasons as is the light of the moon. There are times when the blooms are dorment as there are times when we can not see the moon. Waning now perhaps, yet I miss you as I miss Moon. You know this more than words can tell. As ever be well Dear Friend and As ever be well.
Chrysanthemum would not resist being frozen, even only one night ; it's the same from heart, which prefers to be too hot and alive than too cold and dead...
