a night of high wind and danger; yet the chrysanthemums survived

This is such a perilous year for chrysanthemums, said Princess Haiku.

First, record breaking heat to confuse the darlings as to the season, and now last night's autumnal storm. Sheets of rain pelted against my glass windows and winds howled soon after midnight. There was no other thing for it. I slipped outdoors in a long ghostly nightgown with the wind whipping my pale hair about like a wraith, to pull my planter boxes with their tall occupants indoors.

After pulling wet oak leaves from their branches, I listened to chrysanthemum murmurings as I fell back asleep. What lore, what language do these chrysanthemum know? Like deux fay or siblings speaking twin language their conversation was inaccessible to me. More about deux fay another time.

Later, a dream of diving into a pool of magenta water, becoming a tall gold spider chrysanthemum, transforming into luminous images of Ameratsu. What portents, magic and gifts will my chrysanthemums bring, as winter darkens my pathway and they bear the last light of the season?

And now it is the day of All Hallows and I must prepare my "book of shadows;" an altered book of course. Having said this Princess Haiku disappeared as she often does.

Suddenly....

I am always haunted, said Princess Haiku

These gentle eyes see as I often do, that which belongs to the other world. The wildflower sorrow grows in my garden as quickly as I pick it. said, Princess Haiku. Where are the daisies?

surprised by Yellow, said Princess Haiku

The sky was dark and poignant with rain. There was a pause before the first drops fell and it was YELLOW! How is it that I found yellow today when I was looking for grey clouds.

water lily, said Princess Haiku

Sometimes I wish to become a water lily, said Princess Haiku but I can't decide which I love more, the water or the lily?

Chrysanthemum Extravaganza Continues

I found some other photos of the magenta flowers and couldn't resist posting them. I have gold chrysanthemums on another computer. Eventually, I will post them too. This officially ends a Spring review of October blooms.

Princess Haiku Visits a Magenta Chrysanthemum in Her Dreams

This is a reprint of one of my favorite posts and the date on the flowers is wrong as they are from 2005. Sigh, it took me a year to figure out how to change the date in my digital camera. If someone is ever going to try to do a history on my life I wish them well as I have never lived in a linear fashion. I use to just put any old date on my poems too. My brother understands me.

What day is it, he asked?
"NOW" he responded,
and we both laughed
for its always that day.

These gorgeous, magenta chrysanthemums bloomed last October. They were given to me by the special person who grows them.

Princess Haiku, they asked, when I held them in my hands by their long stems. What comes first, the poet or the haiku?

Every time I encounter one of these magical flowers I become so full of them that I lose myself and I can not answer their magenta question.

White Ballerina Poppies

White ballerina poppies told their dreams to Princess Haiku. Don't tell, they whispered.
