Zap; a secret Message

I was browsing through my favorite used bookstore and to my delight found a 1955 copy of "The Selected Poems of Frederico Garcia Lorca." Inside the book was a faded slip of paper perhaps used as a bookmark. On it were written these words which I have embraced as a secret text for all of us.

"...ourselves before and ourselves after. This assures anonymity. While we can talk with each other and feel each other, we cannot identify each other. Thus you will never be able to be entirely sure that each person you meet, for the rest of your life, has not participated in the Zap with you."

What is your interpretation of this and why do you think that I found it?

I'm basically a shy person, have been all my life, and finally I've accepted this. I do talk with people, but mostly listen. They do not know all my inner thoughts, nor do they seem interested.
Inside my mind are creative thoughts, thoughts on life, maybe this is what "Zap" is.. the passion and dreams inside one's head. Many people I meet are more interested in talking about themselves, or gossiping about others, to realize there there is "Zap" in me.
I've become so used to this in my life, that I've kept the Zap inside, but I think it may just leak out in my drawings without me realising it.
Are you like this too? I would like to hear what you think about "Zap" yourself.
Wow, this is a long post.. I feel like I've been rambling...

I get this message.
The zap mentioned seems to be the same as the zen saying that you can never step into the same river twice. Not only are we constantly changing, the meeting of two makes of both something unique in their lives. Thanks for showing this note.

Princess Haiku,

I feel I have participated in the zap with you although we have not yet met. I guess we have yet to meet all of our "selves" as well, which is nice, as it gives us someone new ... (inner growth???? ) to look forward to finding --to surprise ourselves is always enriching.

What an amazing message left to be found. I don't know about Zap as it sounds more Zen LOL.

It's so interesting reading what you are each saying in your own way. That we are sharing a particular experience of the "zap." It will be intriguing to see where we go with this.

i like this part:

ourselves before and ourselves after

yes, I like the "before and after" selves too. As for the Zap, hm...did they all come back, I wonder? Or did some of the zappers climb off the top of the Boddhi tree?
Just curious: do you happen to remember which of the Lorca poems was marked with this slip of paper?

I imagine that if I wore an outfit similar to the one shown here, I might experience more Zap in my life.
I love that outfit-- it resembles a chenille Japanese robe of some sort.

as always, your flowers zap me.

I'm tempted to do something mischievous here and say, "Oh, at last, someone found my note!" *LOL*

Guess I just blew that ploy though, didn't I?

It's agonizingly mysterious (in a good way;-p), like something you'd read in a novel or see in a movie, but never really happens--to most of us.

What impinges on my mind is that it could actually describe blogger relationships. Hardly anyone posts a real pic of themselves.
The note doesn't really sound like that, it's just a pattern I've overlayed in my mind, kinda fits.

Now it's reminding me of Hesse's Steppenwolf, or something like that.

Wow, Princess. What a find.
Thank you.

Oh dear, I'm afraid Secret Messages elude me. I'm not in the habit of looking for them, and thus I'm not so adept at intepreting them when asked. However, I do wish I could go to your favorite book store with you. It would be so fun to visit some of your favorite 'haunts' and look with your eyes. Sometimes mine miss the magic, I think, but not on purpose.

Princess,

Regarding my own interpretation, your mysterious words sound quite like a definition for the function of a blog. Given the date your book was published, however, "the Zap" is likelier to be less technology driven and more philosophical/symbolic.

As fascinating as your questions are to me personally, I am more fascinated by what your own answers would be. What is YOUR interpretation of this, and why do YOU think that you found it?

I am guessing you will decline to answer, but perhaps your beloved Lorca offers a clue in "Sonnet of the Sweet Complaint," when he wrote:

I am afraid of being, on this shore,
a branchless trunk, and what I most regret
is having no flower, pulp or clay
for the worm of my despair.

Thank you, by the way, for your sweet wishes on the Vernal Equinox, which I send to you in return.

Cynthia

Salix,
You are a fey spirit and your gentle Zap is all over your blog. There are as many different ways to express it as there are people.

Diane Dehler said...

It would be a different look for you, Bob. lol :)

I like your Zen interpretation G. Very thoughtful.

L- I found the poem the slip of paper was on and am going to post it. What a great idea and thanks as I wouldn't have thought of that myself.

Diane Dehler said...

A- You are funny....

The note is mysterious and I have an intuition that it is going to give a special Zap to anyone who reads the story about it and thinks about it. It's a story being written about us. Synchronicity perhaps? There is more to this.

Diane Dehler said...

BTW A.. that is a real photo of me.

After much consideration, my interpretation forthwith, as we all await yours.

The Zap permits two lovers to forget they were ever in love. In a single instant, all that has transpired between them, both good and painful, vanishes from Time's record and their hearts' memories. Once they have consented to the Zap, they will never again regard each other as one with whom such passion is possible. La passion est morte.

Leaving us the choice, perhaps: to forget and not feel, or to remember and suffer?

I like cbbs ideas--I have been spending a lot of time with old friends who are going through an ugky divorce (since the man --who cheated a lot) did not want the divorce, he is being crazy on every small detail. his former wife was besotted with him, and for many years assumed they were very happy.

she has experienced the Zap. La passion est morte.
she no longer even feels anger towards him. (after spending a lot of time feeling seething anger)

One day I noticed that she'd given up feeling anything for him, and there was quite a shift --she regained herself!

re-reading this again...
It seems that this Zap had been experienced by 2 people together before, somewhere. But when these 2 meet sometime in the future, they do not know that they have participated in the Zap with each other. I do believe this may be the internet, such as chats, forums, and blogs. How would I know I am talking to an old internet friend if I ever chance to meet them sometime?
It's a little sad...

Salix,
You are right. Sometimes people reinvent themselves as another persona on the internet. It also has me thinking about reincarnation too.
