Wintersweet Journal 2
I had a beautiful although chilly, February walk in the University of California Botanical Garden today. A star magnolia tree was just beginning to bloom and I was happy to capture a few images. There was a dark sky today and tomorrow a rain storm threatens the emerging buds. How precarious the bloom of earliest Spring blossoms, reminding us all of the vulnerability of life and it its transient nature.
The pale pink of the bloom lends color to my far memories. How many seasons, how many early Spring days belong to the dance repertory of the most beautiful magnolia of all, the Star? Shall we hold the membrane of the soul, the petals to our own soft flesh to commune with the infinite?
Today my journey in the garden saw a star magnolia awaken as Spring perfection.
