rainbows, rainbows, rainbows, said Princess Haiku disappearing into one

I was visiting a friend late this afternoon when the Goddess Iris, sent a rainbow to join us!

Rainbows and lemon ginger tea to brighten a rainy, January day.

IRIS was the goddess of the rainbow, the messenger of the Olympian gods. She was often represented as the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera. Iris was a goddess of sea and sky--her father Thaumas "the wondrous" was a marine-god, and her mother Elektra "the amber" a cloud-nymph. For the coastal-dwelling Greeks, the rainbow's arc was most often seen spanning the distance beteween cloud and sea, and so the goddess was believed to replenish the rain-clouds with water from the sea.

Thanks for visiting :)

Great photos, could almost be where I live. It is meant to be Summer here but our sky has been the same on and off most of Summer.

Haven't heard about Iris for many years. I really must read Greek mythology again sometime, always fascinated me.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes on my blog! Seems like a golden winged messenger of the gods has stepped into my room right now ;-) A huge rainbow that estends from one continent to another ...

The beautifulest rainbows are by the sea, maybe... I saw one so beautiful in French Guiana near Atlantic Ocean, I'll publish a picture at the end of my travel book on Cergipontin.
It was exactly the same than yours but above horses and palm trees... And the light was so nice too...

I have a recipe for lemon ginger cookies which would be so lovely to bite into with your tea. While looking at those rainbows. A feast for all the senses!

I love rainbows! And lemon ginger tea, it's one of my favourite teas.

I too have been dissappearing from Blogger for long periods. I don't intend to either, it just seems like days and weeks go by.. ah well.

I started using Facebook, and have reconnected with so many people from the past.
Are you on there as well?

Dear Princess,
Thank you for your rainbows and for teaching me about Iris. Did you know the first woman's Krewe in New Orleans was/is Iris? So now I know because of you her symbolism!!

Wishing you a bouquet of delicate chrysanthemums!!

I thought that Iris also guided departed female souls into the other side; but I may have misremembered.

Sounds like you are finally getting some much-needed water from above . . . enjoy..

were you in this area when you snapped those photos. it has been amazing weather. I was telling a friend about a flock of crows we saw outside the window that were on a wire and then would fly backwards faceon into the wind and be suspended in space. It was right about the time of santa cruz's tornado warning. Personally, I am one that is going to miss the rain; glad there is another coming on it's coattails,

Ascender, I was standing on a balcony with a friend to see if the rain had stopped and we watched it form and spread across the sky.

Here, my friend, is the recipe for the Lemon Ginger cookies:

1 stick butter
3/4 C. sugar
1 large egg
1 T. lemon zest

1 and 1/3 C. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 C. chopped crystallized ginger
pinch of salt

Mix butter and sugar together, add egg and zest until fluffy. Combine dry ingredients and add slowly to butter mixture. Fold in crystallized ginger at the end of mixing.

Drop about 1 to 2 teaspoons of batter on cookie sheet leaving adequate space. Bake about 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

So delicious, they're one of our favorites. May they bless you!
