Winter Solstice Webcam from Newgrange

Winter Solstice Webcast

Winter Solstice SunbeamFor the first time ever, the 2007 Winter Solstice illumination of the passage and chamber at Newgrange will be streamed live on the internet.

The webcast and an exhibition at the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the re-discovery of the Winter Solstice Phenomenon at Newgrange by Professor O’Kelly in 1967.

The Winter Solstice event from inside the chamber at Newgrange will be broadcast on the mornings of Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd December 2007. If conditions are good the rising sun will illuminate the passage and chamber between 8:58am and 9:15am GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

To view the webcast click on the Heritage Ireland website.

You will also find great links to various Irish Labyrinths at this site.

when i go to ireland i spend the bulk of my time in one small town in donegal--but i have gotten myself to newgrange a few times and it is worth visiting-i have never experienced it at Solistice, but the guides tell you all these interesting things-- pretty miraculous really. the fun thing about ireland is, you'll be driving down a road and may spot a tiny handpainted arrow or signpost that says "fairy ring" or "holy well" and if you're the adventurous type you may find yourself a hours later, well off the beaten path searching some hillside or rocky field.

Thank you for the kindness of your soul, Stephen. Lotus, I am so glad that you enjoyed the post and hope you saw the illumination. Chedwick, what does a fairy ring look like? Do you have any photos.

Solstice greetings for all those that experience the return of light.

I did watch this live telecast on the 21st. Not as magical as actually being there, but exciting still. I've been there several times, and it's quite mystical. Never during the winter solstice though, unfortunately.

I absolutely love visiting Newgrange each time I return home to Drogheda. Another place that is full of ancient ambiance is Loughcrew in County Meath, it's a
fantastic place to do some reflection on what's important in your life.
