Princess Haiku sat on the edge of a sea cliff listening to a mermaid sing

I have been musing about the mermaid's voice. One can't help but wonder about the sound of it and I'm thinking that it might be worth risking being enchanted or put under a spell of some sort to hear such a voice.

I understand the aloneness of the little mermaid, for her poetic voice was the gift, the cliff, the rip- the torrent and the promise of return to sea. I have been reading about mermaids all day and as you see have become captivated by the archetype. And right now- by the edge of the sea, I close my eyes and I hear the little mermaid singing just below the level of my consciousness and the wave.

Critic Christine Fell states that the little mermaid's loss of voice conveys her aloneness in both worlds. (Fell 1967, 85)."

How real the mermaids are in my world. Living close to the sea and where the land is really part of the water, they are everywhere. Some are Lorelei's and call some to do wicked things. Otheres are charming and challenge us to do great things.

Visiting your lovely blog.. it's exceptional! Your writing is most beautiful with a lot of thought going into it. I especially like your 5 reasons to blog. I like the last idea, bringing people from everywhere together.. and I hope you are right, that we earth people can join to create a better world.
I enjoyed looking at the bonsai down a few posts, what pretty trees!

A most enchanting voice, for sure! I too am mesmerized by merpeople: maids, men and fae :-)And of course... Melusine. May their song and magic be heard and felt!

I have written many things but never a story and I'm musing what I will do with the mermaid archetype. Thanks for your kind feedback.
